To Travel is to Live

One of my all time favorite things to do is travel. We usually try to see at least one new country and one new U.S. city each year, and last year we checked out two U.S. cities (St. Augustine and San Francisco - Wine Country) without any new stamps on the passport so I'm determined to break it back out this year.

Booked

We haven't done much planning or research yet for 2018, but we do have a beach house booked with friends who will be bringing along their toddler for a joint family beach weekend in Siesta Key. Living in Florida for over 7 years, and believe it or not I still have not been to what is considered the most beautiful beach in the continental U.S. Can't wait!

Preliminary Planning

Our preliminary plans that we've tossed around are another weekend in a new U.S. city as a family or just the 2 of us, and an international tropical vacay just the 2 of us while my mom watches lil' miss which she always jumps at the chance for. It's a win-win. We get much needed couple time, and Serena gets quality nana time.

U.S. Cities on our mind

Denver - a Rockies game, hiking, some brewery hopping, and of course Red Rocks Amphitheater.

Nashville - this would be an adults only trip so we can take in the live music and pop in and out of bars along the way.

International Beaches and Resorts on our mind

Costa Rica - Beaches, hiking, waterfalls, zip lining, and beautiful resorts? Yes please!

Turks and Caicos - Ever since we missed our cruise stop a few years ago and wrote off sailing with Carnival ever again (a full recap on their deplorable customer service can be found here), we've been itching to check out this beautiful island. Check out that water!

Of course we always have cruising on the mind as well. We'd love to check out a new to us Royal Caribbean ship or finally check out Princess or Celebrity.

Emily and I have also been talking about a girls trip to Charleston since it's within driving distance and neither of us have ever been. If you'd like to join, let us know!

Traveling in style, but remaining comfortable is also key. I used to show up to the airport in the comfiest clothes possible, which left me sometimes looking frumpier than I would have liked. I now tend to reach for comfy dresses or cozy chic pieces like leggings over jeans, because who wants to wear jeans on a long flight?

I can't rave enough about this dress (which now comes in 6 colors, and I kind of want them all)! It's super flattering, and was insanely comfortable for a cross-country flight to San Francisco and hitting the ground running site seeing as soon as we checked in and dropped off our luggage. And as if you haven't heard me talk about my favorite rose gold Superstars they were perfect for running through airports and climbing the giant hills. FYI size down as they run pretty large.

Leggings {40% off}Booties

My fav faux leather leggings are also super comfy for traveling, and sitting for long periods of time. They can be easily dressed up or down with a pair of slip ons or a fabulous pair of heels once you get to your destination and want to check out a great place to eat or grab a drink.

  5. Yay for travel! We’ve only done two real getaways without the kids but love them. Turks is one of my very favourite family vacays and a cruise is also awesome with a kid over 2!

  15. Love this post idea (and all your travel inspiration). I definitely think a couple trip needs to be on your agenda. ;) I've never actually been anywhere in the Caribbean, but it looks lovely. My friends all rave about Turks and Caicos... and those unaffected beaches look amazing, so that's my vote. ;) Denver always seems to have good fare sales (at least from here), so that would be my second vote. ;)

  16. So many fun trips! I love Siesta Key, it's so gorgeous! And I've been thinking about driving up to Charleston for a long weekend before I go back to work but depending on when you guys go, I might be down to go again!

  17. We decided against a big trip this year, but have kicked around a city weekend somewhere we haven't been.

We're looking at Italy in 2019 with my family.

    Siesta Key looks fabulous!

  18. Agreed! Traveling is just the best thing ever. If you go to Denver I would highly recommend making a week out of your Colorado trip and getting a rental car to explore Colorado. While Denver is a fun city you don't really get the full experience until you've driven the mountain passes and visited Telluride, Aspen and Silverton.

Can't wait to see pics from your trips!

    Have a wonderful week!

  19. Sounds like you guys have fun travels in mind!! No one ever has Birmingham on their trip list. Boo! Haha. Turks would be so awesome! I have been to Nashville a few times and it is always a good trip. It has been awhile since we have been though. We hit up the other side of the state a lot more with Chattanooga, Knoxville and Gatlinburg. Gatlinburg would be a fun trip to take Serena when she is a little older!! I hope you get a stamp in your passport soon!

  20. Obviously, let me know if you do make it to Charleston - happy to help with suggestions! Denver is an awesome city, too. I've never been to Costa Rica, but it's absolutely on my bucket list.

  36. My parents are getting closer and closer to going to Florida for a month or two in the winter and have neighbors who go to St. Augustine, so I'd love if they ended up going there too, so we had an even bigger reason to visit! You've been to so many amazing places- I'm going to have to check out some of your older posts, like your trip to Fiji!
