Stress, Pampering & Local Coffee

It's no secret that it's been incredibly stressful around here for the past several months. Health scares for both of my parents (they were both in the hospital while I was traveling for work in May), getting laid off from the job that I loved for 6 and 1/2 years, Lil' Miss getting rushed to the emergency room on the last day I was working, and her long awaited ear surgery which was last week. Now that we are on the other side of her surgery, I've been mentally preparing for my dad's upcoming open heart surgery which I'm flying up to Connecticut to be there for. Yeah, it's been a lot.

But there's always goodness mixed in. We received amazing news from her doctor after her surgery, and she's been healing quicker than originally thought. My dad's surgery was originally scheduled for the same day which meant I wouldn't have been able to fly up and be with my family, and never mind the extra stress I would have had on that day. Woof. I've also been able to enjoy being treated by some local businesses including a custom HydraFacial at Relive Health and trying out the flavors of fall breakfast menu at Foxtail Coffee. Spoiler alert - everything was delish!

I haven't been doing a lot of shopping lately due to being laid off, but loved this $20 dress so much in pink that I wore to the HydraFacial and to board our Southern Caribbean cruise last spring that I scooped it up in black as well for the fall months. Here in Florida I'll wear it as-is, but when flying up to Connecticut I'll throw a jacket over it and pair it with some sneakers.

When I arrived at my appointment, I was greeted by esthetician and had photos taken to take a deeper look at my skincare needs before the main event - the customized HydraFacial. Every last second was pampering and relaxing, and I loved leaving with that beautiful glow.

I pulled out the fall decor over the weekend, to get things decorated before I travel. I like to keep our USA and American flag decor from summer up through Patriot's Day on 9/11 so I decided to pull out all the leaves and pumpkins. Oh and of course the candles.

Keeping Your Skin Healthy and Glowing

Our skin might become lifeless or dry due to shared environmental and lifestyle variables such as the sun's ultraviolet rays, food issues, lack of sleep and other work-related situations. Having healthy skin makes you appear at your best. Your dull and lifeless complexion can be transformed into one that is constantly vibrant and glowing with the help of a few simple techniques and regular routines. I have combat dryness and dullness of my skin by using these solutions

Eat a Balanced Diet

Nutrition and skin care are inextricably related. Your skin will start to look healthier when you consume omega-6 rich good fats. The fatty acids that make up your cell membranes are their building components. As a result, your skin glows and is hydrated by fats.

A nutritious diet rich in protein, fresh produce and fruits is a terrific approach to maintaining good health. Avocados, nuts, salmon, olives, coconut oil and avocados are a few examples of sources of good fats. Moreover, by avoiding smoking and drinking, you can surely help your skin to keep glowing.

Take Probiotics

Consume fermented foods or foods that naturally contain probiotics. If your schedule doesn't permit it, you may add them to your diet by taking supplements sold on the market. I take probiotics as they support digestion and keep the proportion of beneficial bacteria in my gut in check, which further enhances the health of my skin.

Avoid Excessive Makeup

When it comes to cosmetics, everyone's skin is unique. Depending on your skin type, wearing too much makeup might dry out your skin and clog your pores, causing outbreaks. Organic or natural makeup brands may feel lighter on your skin and contain fewer chemicals. If you feel at ease going makeup-free, a good moisturizer with at least SPF30 may be all you need.

Apply Sunscreen

Avoid tanning beds and wear sunscreen. Use a daily moisturizer with at least SPF 30 to protect your face from the sun daily. Choose an option that is resistant to water and provides protection against a broad spectrum of UV rays.

Use a Cleanser and Exfoliate Regularly

Use a soft, soothing cleanser to help your skin recover moisture and relax. This is the first step to removing the pollutants and dead skin cells that dull your skin and display a glowing complexion.

Use an effective exfoliant to remove all the dead skin cells, but delicate enough to not irritate or strip your skin. Auteur cream is my favorite because of it's extensive and high-quality components and formula known to exfoliate, hydrate, protect and restore cellular vitalization.

Daily Moisturizing

To get radiant and shining skin, use products that aid n healing, help to seal in moisture and have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. If you have dry skin, pick a thick moisturizer and apply it daily while your skin is still damp from a shower or wash. Your skin will feel smoother and help retain moisture as a result.

Utilize Good Skin Care Products

Product application timing can impact moisture retention in addition to a good skin care routine. Start your skin care routine as soon as you step out of the shower. Maintaining healthy skin is far preferable to catching up when it becomes unpleasant, dry and inflammatory.

Learn How to Massage Your Face

In addition to encouraging lymphatic drainage and preserving healthy skin cells, a facial massage can also enhance circulation, lower tension and make you feel good. The post-massage glow you'll experience will make the brief time investment each day more than worthwhile.

Reduce Stress and Get Enough Rest

Managing chronic stress may be difficult, but it can badly harm your skin and potentially set off several problems such as autoimmune pathways. Maintaining good skin is yet another crucial reason to prioritize sleep. The consequences for your skin can be devastating if you have insufficient or disturbed sleep.

Stay Active and Hydrated

Exercise stimulates blood flow throughout the body, which heals the skin receive essential nutrients and minerals. Therefore, water consumption is crucial for maintaining healthy skin in general. When you drink enough water, not only does your skin retain it's natural moisture, but it also remains fit, and you guessed it - radiant!

Consuming a large amount of water - approximately 8 to 10 glasses daily is one of the most straightforward strategies to achieve beautiful skin. If you drink enough water, the toxins in your body and your skin will be flushed out.

Utilize Vitamin C

Because it restores a healthy balance to all skin types and makes their tone appear more radiant, vitamin C is considered one of the most effective topical agents for glowing skin. In addition, vitamin C has been shown to improve skin tone, defend against environmental irritants, increase the creation of collagen and elastin, and produce balanced pigmentations.

Keep it at the Right Temperature

Rinsing with water that is too hot might dry out your skin and weaken your skin barrier by removing the natural oils rom it. On the other hand, water too cold won't do the job and may leave grime and makeup on your skin. So, keep to mild water temperatures when it comes to skin care.

Go On and Glow

We are officially in the heart of my favorite time of year. The longer days, the warm air, all the cute flowy sundresses, fun in the water, and our skin just has that happy natural glow. I've smartened up over the years, and not only protect my skin from the sun but also nourish it daily. I'm still upset with myself for the years I neglected sunscreen and daily moisturizers, and let's not talk about how often I'd go to bed without washing off my makeup. Eek!

I was super excited for a shipment of goodies from Maelove. All of their products are made here in the United States, are cruelty free and vegan, and free of parabens, dyes, SLS, and fragrance. Yes please! The Glow Maker Serum is hands down my favorite, and is packed with Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Ferulic Acid, and Hyaluronic Acid which gives you that long lasting hydration we are craving. I've always had sensitive skin, and immediately noticed that it felt softer and that glow - LOVE! If you're wondering why Vitamin C is so important for your skin and not just your internal needs, you can find their informative Vitamin C Guide here.

Did I mention it's only $28? I've tried so many expensive serums and creams in the past, and honestly have always been disappointed. Why pay so much just to be let down?

I may have been foolish while I was younger about taking care of my skin, but I now wash my face each morning and evening and tend to gravitate towards a gentle cleanser that will remove makeup and refresh my skin. Check your daily cleanser, is it made with harsh detergents? Throw it away! It's stripping away layers of your skin leaving it prone to dryness. Maelove's Refresher Cleanser is gentle enough for my daily use, and not only refreshes my face but gives it a little extra energy boost as well. Hello revitalized feeling!

No matter how much sleep I get, my eyes always appear tired. Thanks heredity! The Eye Enhancer has given me an extra boost especially on weekday mornings when my sleep is affected due to stress. It's restored radiance and even a little toning to my tired eye area. When no one can tell you're tired, it's a huge plus!

The Exfoliator! Say that name in your best Terminator voice! I've been using this amazing facial scrub twice a week to deep clean my pores which can use all the help they can get. Ha! My favorite part about this pretty little scrub is that it's formulated with pulverized clay. Sounds fancy huh?

And last, but most certainly not least - I am love love loving the Sun Protector. My dermatologist congratulated me years ago at my annual checkup that I was using sunscreen, but pointed out that the best ones to use are mineral based and packed with zinc. My favorite part is not only am I protecting my face, but it doubles as a primer as well. One less product on my face keeping my makeup locked in place all day while also practicing safe fun.

What are important factors when choosing new skincare products? Please say SPF!

That Summer Glow

Between long stressful days (I'm still super happy at the new gig, and actually thrive in the fast paced flow), and wanting that healthy beachy glow we all crave it was time for a stop at my favorite Couture Med Spa for a Hydrafacial. It felt amazing to prep my skin for summer, as it's the only facial designed to cleanse, extract, and hydrate.

There are three convenient Central Florida locations of this fabulous sanctuary in Winter Park, Oviedo, and Ocoee with services that include Botox and fillers, microblading, tattoo removal, trusculpting, laser hair removal, and spa treatments such as facials, peels, and waxing.

After a quick tour of the beautiful facility, I had my face analyzed and was super thankful to hear I only have minimal sun damage so far. Then it was on for the main event - my Hydrafacial! It's a non-invasive, multistep treatment that combines the benefits of next level hydradermabrasion, a chemical peel, automated painless extractions, and a special delivery of antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and peptides.

My skin feels amazing, and ready for all the summer fun! I'm also loving the effortless glow, and will be wearing my new facial sunscreen that contains true zinc. Perfect for all the pool and beach days coming up.

An Evening in Provence

Last week, I headed out on a "school night" to venture down to Disney Springs for the first annual Spring Showcase event at L'Occitane for an evening of sipping, tasting, mingling, and pampering with other local bloggers and store owners. I almost didn't go because I was afraid to go by myself and mingle, but I'm so glad I took the plunge and went.

These spicy margaritas were DELISH! I keep saying I need the recipe, but then I stumbled upon on it on the menu board in the below picture. Definitely going to try to recreate them at home - yum!

Such a fun night, I'm so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and met some local bloggers, enjoyed some pampering, and enjoyed the best spicy margarita I've ever had. Yep, still thinking about that. And the macarons.

Summer Sun Recovery Mode

Growing up, I was the model citizen for everything you shouldn't do when it comes to enjoying Mr. Sun. I just wanted that golden glow as quickly as possible, and would lay out without sunscreen, use baby oil, and even *gasp* fake n' bake. After some bad sunburns, trips to the Caribbean with zero sunscreen application (which makes me cringe now), a biopsy at the dermatologist, and just plain ol' growing up and coming to my senses I realized how important it was to practice safe sun.

Even though in blog world, it looks like summer is over MAC knows what's up and that it's still in fact summer. Most of us are still spending our weekends by the pool or at the beach, and with that our skin needs some recovery love.

I never knew sunburnt lips could hurt so bad, and be a peeling mess until my Southern Caribbean cruise back in 2009. I now make sure to slather on plenty of chapstick with SPF in it, but if I still end up burning that sensitive area on my face MAC's lip conditioner is the perfect antidote.

When I've been kissed by the sun just enough without any damage, I like to slather on Moroccan Oil's After Sun Milk which enhances my glow. Plus I love how the first ingredient is water!

The combination of mineralized water plus in MAC's Charged Water instantly rehydrates while also adding radiance. A healthy summer glow!

Summer Favorites

Happy Friday! I couldn't be more excited that summer is officially here, and I'll most likely be found in the pool or at the beach for the foreseeable future every weekend.

1. Since I live outside this time of year, practicing safe sun is super important. I've been applying Supergoop's new whipped sunscreen mousse while floating around the pool. It's been a nice change from the sprays which I felt wound up more in the air than on my skin.

Sunscreen - Supergoop!

2.  I live in or by the water for at least half the year here in the sunshine state, so a good pair of sandals that can also get wet are key. Not only are my new SOAK sandals pretty in shimmering gold, but they are comfortable, eco friendly, water proof, and recyclable. This green fashionista approves!

My readers will enjoy a 15% off discount when purchasing a pair of these waterproof sandals with code GREEN15. Happy Shopping!

I'm excited to be giving away a free pair of the SOAK sandals. They come in a variety of fun colors and combinations, and are perfect for a trip to the pool, beach, or lake house.

3.
I finally scooped up these Valentino dupes that I've been swooning over all summer. They're not only back in stock, but are on a major sale and are now less than $27! Be prepared to see these studded beauties a lot in upcoming outfit posts.

4. I was excited to be chosen for Influenster's Revitalift challenge. I'm really starting to notice wrinkles and fine lines around my eyes and mouth especially when smiling, so I'm always in the market to try something new that'll help reduce the aging process. They sent me a complimentary jar of L'Oreal Revitalift, and I've been using it as my daily moisturizer the past few days. It smells great, and my skin is brighter each morning. I'll definitely report back with my thoughts after using it for a few more weeks as well as before and after pictures.

5. It takes me forever to get through books these days, but I finally finished The American Heiress which promised to help with my Downton Abbey withdrawals. It started off a little slow for me, but I'm so glad I gave it a second chance because then it was a page turner. It was wrapped up rather quickly in the end, but now I'm just hoping it'll be made into a movie. The last thing Hollywood needs is another remake or sequel.
