I'm VERY much looking forward to yoga with the work fam over Zoom tomorrow. It's time to step back, take a deep breath, and set new intentions. Last week was a rough one folks - on top of the awful acts that went down at our nation's capitol I was also insanely stressed at work and in my personal life as we await some test results on a family member. Social media has become such a place of hate and judgement. I saw a lot of polls that people held where people felt they were damned if they do and damned if they don't. It's incredibly important to get the word out for real change and healing in our beautiful nation. However, I do not for one second judge those who choose to sign off for a while and not fill up their cup with stress and hate. We all cope in different ways, and need this time to heal. I do judge those who act as if nothing is happening and continue posting about $500 dresses that you just "have to have" right now. Yep... major side-eye. Read the room people.
Let's try to start this fresh new week feeling a little less anxious, and filled with hope. Thankfully, a small handful of our population does not represent the majority of us. Most people are saddened by last week's events and ready to move forward towards much needed healing. No matter what side you are on, we are all looking forward to much needed peace. And I'd like to take a look at the good things that have happened so far in this brand new year.
But first coffee is always my motto (unless it's Champs of course), and when I tried to spread some positivity on the 'gram the other day I asked people to tell me something GOOD. Christine responded saying she just tried the new Pistachio Latte at Starbucks and it was amazing. I of course, picked one up the next morning before tackling housework and it was delish! So good, my bestie decided to cash in her birthday reward on one and loved it too.
I've been self-isolating at home as we prepare for a big work event this weekend. We are filming it on a stage, but streaming it around the world since we won't have a live physical audience. With all the time at home means all the comfort. Ain't nobody got time for jeans or bras... or makeup for that matter - ha! Other than walks outside with Lil' Miss and the pup, I've been cozied up inside in these slippers which keep my notoriously cold feet nice and toasty.
And alas - the lighting in my room just is what it is. These were taken when the sun was shining bright outside, both bedside table lamps on AND using the ring light tripod my mom sent me for Christmas. I'm a dunce at photo editing (everything you always see is un-touched), so this is life. Along with cords hanging from the tv on the wall, and paint chips in the background as we prepare to re-paint and brighten up our space.
Slippers and good coffee, a negative COVID test for above mentioned work event, re-organizing closets as we put away the Christmas decor, and tomorrow's Zoom yoga class. All very good things in addition to the obvious amazing things like family, friends, remaining employed with the ability to work from home during this time, and our sweet girl. I'm focusing on that, cheers to a great week!
I love your positive as always mentality and I hope the work yoga is exactly what you need! xo, Biana BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteSUch a positive take. I was bummed also to see some conservative bloggers not deign to mention what's being going on! Yes to yoga and focusing on the positive this week.
ReplyDeleteI love this post! The reasons you mentioned are exactly why I have never had a Facebook. I feel like Instagram is a little more positive but yet I still need a break from it from time to time! I love your slippers! I hope you have a peaceful week until your big work event! I’m sure it will go great!
ReplyDeleteLast week was awful, sad, and exhausting. I, too, pray that everyone can somehow figure out a way to come together to unite our nation once again. It hasn't felt united for quite sometime. And yes, I was also very disappointed of the blind eye that was turned by some of the bloggers as well. I cannot even imagine carrying on with business as usual with so many terrible things happening around us. I can't wait to hear more about your work event... good luck! I hope everything goes well!
ReplyDeleteSending lots of love and a hug your way my friend. I hope that your work event goes well and I need to try that Starbucks drink. I got a few gift cards for Christmas and I tried the cold brew with the Irish cream. SO good!
ReplyDeleteI definitely feel like social media is becoming more of a negative space lately. I could never judge someone for not commenting on something as big as last week, because as you said, we all need to process these things in our own way. Some people are also terrified to say anything because of the cancel culture that exists. Its like you can do or say anything right anymore. I am ready to heal as a nation. I feel like most of us, no matter which side we tend to lean, just want to have some peace in this country and move forward.
ReplyDeleteI had to mute so many people on Insa last week. My mental state was not great after that horrific day, and I could not for one second read about people justifying what had happened. So instead I logged off and did a lot of stretching videos :) It helped so much! Here's to a better week ahead, my friend..xo

Yes, last week was a bumpy ride indeed. I'm feeling a lot of anxiety about the upcoming few weeks and I'm just absolutely exhausted between the world as it exits as my job. My hip pain is picking up significantly, and I'm having a hard time getting doctor's appointments. I don't feel comfortable going to the spa right now... so I just feel exhausted and stuck.
ReplyDeleteGOOD LUCK with the big work event! I'm no stranger to those during this strange times, so I know how mentally taxing it can be to gear up for it! I know you're going to do great though!
(I find your TV cords comforting as I stare at my own, lol.)
I love what you wrote in the first paragraph-- it's so true that people have NO idea what else people are going through. I think it's one thing for big brands to act totally aloof or to try and ignore certain things, but I don't see how trying to shame people into "speaking out" is helpful at all. I need to get a pair of slippers, I've been having to wear double socks some days!
ReplyDeleteWhat a week it has been and I really appreciate your approach to it!
ReplyDeleteLast week truly was shocking and awful! I agree that it's been time for people to speak up and speak out but at the same time seeing the amount of hate it's met with is pretty appalling. Love your attitude about it and hope you've been able to decompress a bit this week!

Last week was so sad and mentally exhausting. I hope you enjoyed your zoom yoga class and hope everything goes well with your work event! Love your cozy slippers!

Yes things are depressing and scary. The country is very divided and I do not think anyone or any leader is capable of bringing it together as the two sides are fundamentally so opposite. It is dismaying and frightening how close we are I feel to civil war, or a modern day example of it. It is very much like 1930s Germany. And although race relations are strained and racism is a major problem it is more of a symptom of a larger problem and that is the disappearance of the so called American Dream but really the disappearance of the average person being able to earn a good living. Since the 80s the standard of living or being able to earn a "middle class" wage/lifestyle has been rapidly declining due to outsourcing, advances in technology and now AI. Only a small portion 30% or less of the population does well. %70 live pay check to pay check. It is bad. And yup the luxury market raising its prices and influencers who still speak about expensive clothes. I don't judge, but it does highlight the economic divide.
ReplyDeleteIt is only going to get worse, though sadly with AI it is now a world wide problem. And this level of economic unbalance is really going to create a lot of civil unrest. I am not sure what to think anymore...

I like your approach and fact that you look at good and positive things. These slippers look very cozy.

Such a cosy stay home outfit! I hope your work event goes well! It has been a rough start to the year, it's a shame 2021 didn't have more good things in store but I hope things improve. I don't really understand the situation on the US - lots of confusion over it here but hopefully when you have a new president it will get better.
ReplyDeleteHope that you are having a nice weekend :) Thanks so much for joining the #WeekdayWearLinkup!

I'm ready for a better week. too. I'm also finding that for me, I need to watch less news and be on social media less as well. And I think this is a great week to start :) Happy Monday!

Last week was INSANE. And so horrifying. I have really been pulling back from social media (Instagram specifically) because I find it really gross when influencers just continue to post swipe up links of their outfits or whatever and not address anything that's happening. Or even worse, be on the wrong side of history. Just sooo disappointing.
ReplyDeleteSending you good vibes for this week, babe friend!

I love those joggers so much. I tried the pistachio latte this weekend and LOVED it. It is subtle, but nice.
