Mermaids and Polka Dots

Hello Monday, here we are over 3 months into self isolating and things are picking up again out there. I don't know about you guys, but I'm over it. I'm over the people who think they don't need to wear a mask, the people who are congregating in large groups, and those thinking they are just above it all and it no longer matters. Oh it matters, and I'm jealous of those who haven't been affected by the virus or any of their loved ones. *Officially stepping down off my soap box, and reminiscing on our lovely yet simple Fathers Day at home yesterday.

Lil' Miss and I surprised my husband with an adorable handmade card from her, and we hit the pool for the majority of the day and FaceTimed our dads. My parents LOVED watching Lil' Miss jump in the pool and swim underwater. She's officially a swimmer, and even jumping in and swimming in the deep end of the pool. I'm in awe of my 3 year old swimming so well, and am so thankful for the swimming lessons she took last year and that she's had so much practice in the pool with us being home for so long. She's officially my little mermaid, cue all the heart eyes. Speaking of my parents - an update on my mom. She's still feeling much better thankfully, and seems to be mostly out of the woods with the virus. She still has some rough days, but looks and sounds so much better. Thank you everyone who was thinking of her or praying for her.

Now, let's talk about this dress. It gives me all the Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton vibes, and is so classically chic. I scooped it up to wear to the office which I honestly don't foresee happening anytime soon. The numbers are rising in Florida, and it's worse than it was with the first wave. So, I'm more than happy continuing to work from home. I may not be able to shop on a Duchess' budget, but loved that this dress was only $17 and it comes in 2 colors.

Our 10th wedding anniversary is this week, and the Alaskan cruise we had originally booked is obviously not happening. Instead, we are driving over to St. Pete Beach for a few nights complete with our toddler to celebrate - ha! A few days on the beach, donuts for breakfast, tropical drinks by the pool, and ice cream after dinner will be good for the soul and we plan on only dining outside the entire time. Stay tuned for me to be spamming my Instagram with beach pictures. Sorry not sorry.

  2. I'm so glad that your mom is feeling better - slowly but surely! I'm 100% with you on people needing to understand there is still very much a pandemic going on! We're slowly opening up here, but we wear masks all the time, especially on the streets! Glad it was a great weekend! xo, Biana BlovedBoston

  3. Oh Kate, I'm 100% with you!!!! I started composing a blog post that will go up this week sometime and I totally got all up on my soapbox about people not wearing masks and not keeping their distance, too. It makes me FURIOUS. I had to run errands last week (in my mask, of course) and I'd estimate that probably 80% of people did NOT wear a mask. It was shocking. I don't understand why they can't just understand that it's not about them... it's about protecting other people!! If you could save someone's life by wearing your mask then WHY WOULDN'T YOU JUST WEAR THE MASK? The lack of human decency in this world saddens me. I'm so glad that your mom is doing better. She is in my prayers.

  4. That dress gives me total Kate Middleton vibes! NO ONE is wearing masks around here any more and it seriously pisses me off! Yesterday the WHO reported the world's largest single-day increase in coronavirus cases. I hope you enjoy your anniversary trip/family vacay!

  5. I'm so glad your mom is turning a corner and feeling better. It makes me so mad when I see people with no masks, especially in the stores where it's required. They wear them in but then take them off. Love this darling polka dot dress on you!

  6. Thank you so much for this post! I think people are congregating and not wearing mask because they don't have anyone close enough to them that has the virus. Seeing someone infected with the virus changes your perspective on how severe and serious it is.
Thank God you mother is doing well and still wishing her the best recovery too. Remember to stay strong too.
Love that polka dot dress plus it such a steal. And the brown shoes....so lush!

  7. Girl, I am up with you on your soapbox because I am sick of it too! Chris and I haven't even been anywhere at all since March 13. And we take my car out and drive around town on weekends so it doesn't die sitting in the garage....and people are just going about like normal. No masks. No social distancing. Everywhere is packed. Ughhhhh. I am so glad to hear your mom is doing better. I wish I would have gotten Zoe swimming lessons last summer, because they clearly aren't happening this year. Hopefully 4 wont be too old to start. She loves blowing bubbles and doing little kicks in her baby pool because of a Fancy Nancy swimming episode, so I hope she continues to not be scared when the time comes. We are debating if she is going to start back at dance next month or not. It will be her first exposure back with people. It is so hard to know the right thing to do, you know?

  13. I'm so glad to hear your mom is doing better- this is amazing news! Speaking of amazing, this dress is FANTASTIC on you.

I'm right there with you re: people congregating in large groups, not social distancing, not wearing masks (don't even get me started on this nonsense about "I'm not wearing a mask because it poisons me with my own CO2 or masks cause fungal infections" like GET OUTTA HERE WITH THAT. It's so selfish and it's all definitely going to set us back in terms of actual containment. Sooo frustrating!

  15. The polka dots are so cute! And I love navy in the summer.
I couldn't agree with you more about all this COVID crap. I don't understand why it's so difficult to just put on mask. I can't believe people no longer care! I have to go back to college in the fall and even though I love college, I'm really dreading the return because of all my dumb classmates... I wish people would just be smarter. And how would the non-mask wearers feel if I walked up and coughed on them?? I wonder.
Anyway, hope you're having a nice day, even though we're worked up now, haha. :-)

  17. My twins are 5 and they picked up swimming so quickly after we got a pool! The swim lessons we used to take them to definitely helped but more with feeling comfortable in the water rather than with any actual technique. We had so much time in the water over the summer and they both definitely turned into little divers - it's fascinating to watch, and I can totally understand how proud you are of your little one. This is a gorgeous dress too, Kate - love it, and can't believe it's so cheap!

  18. I know what you mean. It is ridiculous and is the reason that America is not having a full decline in cases as they are in Europe...

On a less political note. Love this polkadot dress and congrats on 10 years!!

  19. I am so glad to hear your mom is doing better. Sending more positive vibes for a speedier recovery! Happy 10 years to you and your hubby. That's a bummer that you won't be on a cruise but a beach getaway sounds fabulous. I want my son to learn how to swim but I am so scared to put him in any classes right now because of the virus. We don't have a pool either so I am a little bummed he can't even learn doggy paddling! I hope you are having a great day so far and happy Friday!

  21. That is such a cute polka dot dress on you and it's so good to hear your mum is doing better! :) I agree swimming lessons for kids are so important - we can't imagine not having them here with there being so much water around. It's been sad we haven't been able to do our usual lessons since the pool closed down but it's opening with stage 3 changes next month, yey! So hopefully all goes well and my son can get back in the pool.

Although with the explosion of cases in another state (another 30 were announced the other day which I know is not a lot in US terms, but is a very high scary number here!) who knows if restrictions will come back or we will all have to wear masks like you in the US.

Hope that you are having a lovely weekend :)
