Movin' On Up

Cheers to Friday! I'm so ready for happy hour and a fun filled weekend of celebrations.
I've kept it under wraps for a while, but ever since my department was eliminated at the magazines I worked at while I was pregnant with lil' miss I haven't truly landed on my feet. I was fortunate enough to accept a position that sounded really promising. It started off at ridiculously low pay, the commute was rough with a capital woof, I was under utilized, under valued, and I wasn't allowed to work from home ever... as a social media director - say whaaaat?! Needless to say, it was time to look for a place to really plant my roots,  and I'm happy to report that I formally accepted an offer with a fantastic and rapidly growing company that's much closer to home, and is a positive to all my negatives from my current situation. And I start on Monday!

There's just one thing... I haven't had a work dress code in years. We're talking flip flops, strapless sundresses, shorts, anything went. Now it's time to clean up my 9-5 look, and start looking like a working and polished professional again. I don't need stuffy suit jackets every day, but I do need to start breaking back out my pencil skirts, dress pants, and heels with some fun pops of peplum. Of course, this calls for shopping! I've been inspired by Lindsay's recent posts on affordable work wear, and am taking a page out of her always amazing book.

What are some of your work wear closet staples?

I like your work wardrobe update pieces too, they are so practical! I love pencil skirts and pretty tops for the office - add a pencil skirt or blazer and you can easily wear a casual top underneath! :)

I started a new role at the start of this year (same company just totally different role/team) and had to revamp my wardrobe so it was a little more professional haha! Express and Loft are GREAT places for work-wear!

  25. Congrats! When the job situation is not right it is a huge deal in your life, so glad it worked out for the better. I love that BP peplum tee so much, and this is why I don't peruse fashion blogs to often anymore. I don't need to see this!! The Who What Wear Line at Target that someone just commented on above is a good tip. I don't have a dress code where I work, but I'd like to try a little bit harder for...let's call it structured casual.

  36. A big, fat CONGRATS, babe! When the negatives outweigh the positives of a job, it can really drain all areas of your life. We spend so much time at work (like it or not), when it's bad, it SUCKS. I'm so happy for you in your new venture and I hope it's everything you deserve and MORE!
