Good Friday Favs

Why hello there Friday, aren't you a site for sore eyes! Very busy weekend ahead, but it's packed full of good stuff including dinner with one of my best friends from CT who's in town, and an Easter potluck at Emily and K's.

1. Welp... I finally did it. I signed up for the annual corporate 5k which should be interesting. I love to stay in shape with various workouts that range from barre classes to spin classes, using my elliptical at home, to yoga and even Jillian Michaels workout dvd's, but a runner I am not. I will definitely be one of the joggers who takes breaks to walk here and there. I've got some training to do because I can only go about a mile before I have to stop and walk for a bit. I know several of you have done these many times and have even done 10k's or half marathons. Any advice for me the non-runner?

2. We had a nutrition lunch and learn this week, and my eyes were really opened as to how important it is to eat organic. I had always thought it was ridiculous before, but hearing about all the chemicals and hormones pumped into the meats, cheeses, and produce we eat was enough to get me to switch. An all organic lunch was provided as well which was actually DELISH!

3. Keeping in line with work events this week, the pet food drive that I organized was a success! We were able to support 2 local charities, and even received several monetary donations as well.

4. Absolutely loving the new Essie polish I picked up last week at Target from their spring line, which is called "Flowerista".

5. As always, I'm loving my recent finds on Pinterest:

  1. The free C25K app is pretty good for getting you race ready. Love the nail color and that you did a dog food drive at work! I am sure the pups would thank you if they could.

  2. Proud of you for signing up for that race, lady! You will rock it out and have a great mindset, go you!!!

I am sooooo with you on Organic. People think it's fluff and just buy processed low fat stuff but gag, that's so bad for you. We spend a lot on groceries because we buy organic and grassfed everything, but it's a choice to eat better and to consume better products. Glad you enjoyed the info!

Your pins are beautiful and that last quote is so true!

  3. Wow, that's so cool about your work events this week. It's easy to bypass organic when it can be so much more expensive but the health benefits are totally worth it!

  4. Yay for signing up for the corporate 5k! I did it a few years ago... ok more like 7 years ago but whatever. I haven't been working out... at all. I need to get back into it! And that's awesome your dog food drive was a success! Totally loving that Essie polish, so pretty and perfect for spring! Have an amazing weekend girl!

  5. Good for you signing up for a race!! I have been thinking about maybe signing up for one this spring/fall. I run a lot, but only on the treadmill...I don't know how I would do outside? I would like to try though.

Also, LOVE that polish! I need to go through my polish collection, to make room for new :)

  7. Yay for your pet food drive! I am all about animal charities so that makes me smile big! I also am all about eating organic, because once you start hearing why you should, you never go back. Scary stuff! You'll kill it at the 5k! I just signed up for one and I am NOT a runner... I'm going on my first jog today and by jog I mean walk ;) I hope you have a fabulous weekend love! xo

  9. I did my very first 5k in November with like zero training. I gotta say, adrenaline really kicks in especially if there is a large crowd. You exercise regularly, even though it isn't running, and that will surely help. I would say my biggest advice is practice breathing, it was hard because Chicago in November is coooold, but getting out of breath quick is the worst. I loove that Essie polish color, definitely the perfect spring purple, it may just end up on my toes when I get my pedicure tomorrow :)! Have an absolute blast this weekend girl!

  10. Okay. So much good stuff in this post I dont know where to begin! The 5k sounds awesome! I have faith in you! I am trying to make the switch to organic, too. Getting my hubby on board is a whole different thing. He is still complaining about the difference in price. Eventually he will get over it. Congrats on your pet drive! That is great! I love that color Flowerista! I was stalking it recently as well! Very pretty! Have a great weekend!

  12. I've been trying to eat more organic too. It really angers me that actual poison and chemicals are pumped into our food, medicines, beauty products, etc. and it's allowed. That's part of the reason why I've switched to using essential oils instead of medicine every time I have a minor ache or pain and I'm slowly starting to incorporate a natural skin care routine, but really we shouldn't even have to worry about it, but sadly we do. Anyway, rant over. Happy Easter!!

  15. That make up table!!! I died a little, I need that!!! I love all those spring shadows, those outfits are so on point too.

I try to buy organic when I can, but living outside of they city..it is harder to find organic options in some food. And sometimes it just isn't as economical. But I agree, cutting down on the chemicals, toxins and hormones is something we should all be doing. I am currently working on the C25K program. I am in week 6 and was NOT a runner prior to this in the least bit. In fact, I hated running. But I am running for longer at one time now than I have since school gym days.

  18. So sweet about the pet food drive! Love your nail Polish and yay for the 5k, you're going to do awesome!

  19. Oh congrats on the 5K! You can do it! I ran my first 5K with zero training, so you can definitely do it since you're in shape. I was not. ;)
I just recommend going out there and running as far as you can every time you train. If you have to walk, then so be it! You'll find that your endurance will build up over time so even if you only run a quarter of a mile, just know you need to work up to it. Nothing to be ashamed of. And I'm sure the day of you'll be surprised at how much stamina you have, the day of adrenaline is real. ;)

We started buying organic a few years ago, and I was the hesitant one. Mainly because of the price. But after you've done it for a while you become adjusted to it. Plus it helps to look for sales and stock up then. TJ's has several great cheaper organic options for various things. Sprout's is also great if you have one of those. I stick to the dirty dozen/clean list for produce so I'm not buying ALL organic for produce.
