Staying in Shape

I've had a number of you ask what I do to stay in shape since I've made it well known that I got rid of my gym membership a few years ago, but have continued to stay active.

*That RBF look is seriously no joke*
When we first moved to Florida from Connecticut, I experienced some inner ear damage which was debilitating to say the least. Even going into grocery stores was almost unrealistic, and I barely got through my work days. So needless to say my workout routine went right out the window for several months as my equilibrium learned to compromise for the permanent damage and I started to feel normal again. I wouldn't wish something that awful on anybody,  but I'm glad I got through it and it hasn't returned. Unfortunately, I ended up gaining weight and not feeling comfortable in my own skin throughout that time.

As I slowly eased back into a healthier lifestyle, I got a membership at a nearby gym so I could get back into spin and kickboxing classes. I also enjoyed going to the gym at lunch to fit in a quick cardio and weight session. It took about a year, but I slowly transformed back into my "healthy weight" range and started fitting back into my old clothes which is always a fantastic feeling. I still have a little bit to go to hit my goal weight, but I love being settled back into a consistent workout routine.
After a little while, I bought my own elliptical for the house and started getting more into workout dvd's to supplement my gym workouts. Next thing I knew.... I quit the gym. And Chandler wasn't kidding, it's not easy to quit the gym!
I quit the gym because I felt that I could get just as good of a workout at home, combined with my yoga classes at work and occasional Barre3 packages. And the great news is... I have. Plus the fun part is still rocking some cute gym clothes that are great for not only working out, but also to relax in at home or for running errands. So, I was excited when a representative from RBX Active reached out to me, and asked if I wanted to try a pair of their new patterned capri legging workout pants which are versatile enough for workouts or every day wear.

My Weekly Workout Routine:

Sunday: Barre3 youtube workout, these are my favorites:

Monday: 30 Day Shred workout (I mix up the 3 workouts on this dvd depending on the day).
Tuesday: Complimentary yoga during lunch hour
Wednesday: RushFit with George St-Pierre or I'll take a Barre3 class at lunch.
Thursday: Complimentary yoga during lunch hour
Friday: Rest day - you deserve it! Now go get your butt to happy hour!
Saturday: Morning bike ride

Sometimes events come up in the evenings, and I don't always fit in my workouts but that's ok. I never get down on myself for living life and missing a workout.
To celebrate the newly launched site, RBX Active is offering my readers a 25% off discount now through July 31st, 2015. There will be free shipping added to purchases of $50 or more. Just enter the coupon code: Active25 and enjoy 25% off your purchase. Happy Shopping (and working out)!

  2. I'm quickly learning that you don't need a gym to have a great workout but with the help of things like classpass you can still go to one if you want!!! I think you look fantastic and you are so dedicated to only give yourself one rest day! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  4. I am so impressed you have the motivation to work out at home all the time. I love going to the gym so I definitely don't get that same motivation at home unless it's going for a bike ride or run. I've thought about giving up my gym membership, especially with my work schedule, but I just can't! Those capris are amazing too!!

  7. Love this mix of so many great workouts you have! I still hang onto my gym membership especially for the winter but I love working out at home, you can't beat it! I'm definitely going to check out those Barre videos!

  8. I'm with you on quitting the gym! I do miss some of the perks (hello sauna) but I'd rather spend my money on class packages and supplement in time at my apartment's gym!

  9. Sweet deal! I was considering buying a machine for home as we only have weights right now, but I don't think I'll do that in this house.

I joined the gym to get myself in check and also quit it in favor of doing stuff at home. I do weights three days, walk two (with DVD), and walk at lunch one or two. Weekend dog walks, shorter weights, zumba DVDs and cardio strength DVDs on weekends sometimes.

  14. Good for you for getting more benefit at home (and I always love that 'Friends' episode, lol)! You look great. And I seriously love JM DVDs. I love how she still manages to get her little motivational zingers in here and there, lol. I can't work out at home because we literally have no room in my spot to do so, but I loved doing it when we did!

  15. ear damage, ouch!! super cute workout clothes though :) and RBF look for real!
i currently have a gym membership - its only $10 a month. i use it for weights, we don't have a lot of weights at home. I also use it to run in the winter. one day hopefully we will have a garage so we can have an at home gym (with weights heavy enough for me and my heavy lifting husband lol) and a treadmill for me during the winter.

  16. The pants are really cute! Agree you don't need a gym to get a good workout in, I love to hike for a good cardio workout too, though I know not everyone has trails near them.

  17. Look at you picking up after life kicking you done and getting right back on it :) I don't have a gym membership either. I live too far out to make it work with my schedule so I make do with what I have at home. I have done the 30 day shred three times, I do the pop sugar fitness work outs via youtube, I also do Body Beast and I have a treadmill and free weights that I use for various strength days. I am not spending any money, I can do it whenever I want and it works out great! There are no excuses when everything is at your finger tips. Love those work out bottoms, they look great on you!

  18. Thank you thank you for this! I've been working out at home all year and I've hit a slump. I'm so excited to try these workouts! And bless your heart for the war damage... I can't imagine how hard that was! You look great!

  23. Super cute pants and I love that your daily routine varies every day so it never becomes mundane. I quit the gym a few months ago but haven't been able to get a good at-home workout routine. I've also been dying to get a treadmill but that hasn't become feasible so unfortunately I've fallen off the train and now swimsuit season is here *die* You always look fabulous though! I'll need to look into some of your DVDs.

  24. Love your workout clothes and how much you stay active! So cool that your office offers free yoga!

  25. Thank you so much for sharing this!! I go to the gym 3-4 days a week depending on my work schedule. While I love the gym, I don't like that it's not within walking distance. I either take a 15 min bus ride or go with my hubs who drives there. I would love to do some at-home workouts during the winter. I will also admit to being jealous of your outdoor workouts because you can do that year-round! :-) You look beautiful and I love your workout pants! :-)

  26. You look fantastic girl!! Those patterned capri's are so cute and I so wish my company offered yoga classes or some sort of exercise class during lunch hour or even after work. I do like my Jillian Michaels so when I get back into the swing of working out, I'll be turning to her to kick my butt!
