Attitude of Gratitude

I am always super excited to support local businesses and to shop small. Plus we all know my love for barre workouts and fun athleisure pieces.

I first discovered Good Vibez Clothing when they had a pop up shop at Barre in the Park. I immediately gravitated towards their positive messaging, gorgeous pearly white Corkcicle bottles, and comfy grippy socks.

Needless to say, I was pumped to win their recent giveaway for a free Attitude of Gratitude Tank. It pairs perfectly with my grippy socks, and I'll definitely be packing it for my vacation workouts on our cruise and the Castaway Cay 5k while docked in the Bahamas.

**This post was not sponsored. I am just excited to share this fun athleisure and workout brand with you all. Even if you aren't local to Central Florida - all orders from the Good Vibez Clothing Co. ship FREE

***If you'd like to check out their amazing pieces use code GREENFASHIONISTA20 for 20% off your entire order plus free shipping.

Happy Shopping!

Strength and Grace

I'm not one to make New Year's resolutions, but I am a big fan of setting personal goals as we begin the new year. This year I'd like to build strength, and have more grace. For myself, and to others...

My favorite workout at the new Bar Method Lake Mary will help with both, as I not only build strength but with grace. I can take that, and bring it into every day life by showing myself more grace and not being so hard on myself or on others.

I also believe you don't have to empty your bank account on athleisure-wear for working out (or if we're being honest a Target or coffee run). As much as I love Lululemon and Zella, and the pieces I have from them are amazing quality and have lasted forever - Target and Old Navy have really stepped up their game on workout gear over the years and are affordable choices to get that motivation to make it to the gym or workout studio.

In the past, I've done a review of Barre3 vs. The Bar Method to point out how similar the workouts are while also having several key differences. The review also has links to some free YouTube videos to do the workout at home.

How I Got My Groove Back

Happy Friday! I've had a lot of questions about staying fit throughout my pregnancy last year, and bouncing back *almost there* once baby girl arrived. I am in no way an expert, so please take my advice with a grain of salt and do what works best for you and your body. I'm outlining below what worked for me, and helped keep me happy and healthy this past year as my body went through all those wonderful changes.

Keeping up with barre and yoga throughout my pregnancy was an amazing experience. But let me tell you dragging myself to class during the 1st trimester nausea and exhaustion was no joke! However, once I was there I was so glad I forced myself, and I always felt so much better once class was over. I truly believe that staying fit and active helped me keep a lot of symptoms away (or minimal) such as swelling, back pain, and trouble sleeping. And cute workout clothes make it even more fun to get motivated and get to class.

I guess you could say I was a minimalist throughout my pregnancy. I did all the important things like taking pre-natal vitamins, drank plenty of water, kept up with my workouts, designed and decorated the nursery, slathered on all-natural belly butter, and attended all my doctor appointments. However, I didn't buy any maternity clothes (except for my baby shower dress), I didn't go crazy eating all the things, and I didn't even purchase a pregnancy pillow. A king size pillow worked perfectly at night to help me sleep more comfortably.

During Pregnancy

  • I kept up with my workouts that I was already doing which were going to The Bar Method 3-4 times a week during lunch, yoga, weekend bike rides, and at home workouts such as Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred and George St. Pierre's Rushfit.
  • Modified my workouts to fit my changing body. No more twisting, jumping, splits, or any moves that required you to lay on your stomach like "supermans".
  • Drank a lot of water
  • Drank more water
  • Slathered on all-natural belly butter after every shower
  • Didn't over indulge on food and cravings. Trust me, I had my moments and requests for Chic Fil A and trips to the local ice cream shop were common, but I mostly stuck to my usual eating habits of lean meats, salads, greek yogurt, cereal, and light pasta meals. Mmmm pasta. In the words of Emily from The Devil Wears Prada "I eat carbs".
  • Took pre-natal vitamins and an additional vitamin D supplement daily

Post-pregnancy

  • Took off the first 6 weeks from exercise which is standard until you get the ok from your doctor to resume working out. I was also recovering from an emergency c-section, so I thought I'd have to wait longer, but I was so thankful to get the go-ahead at my 6 week appointment.
  • Lots of stroller walks around the neighborhood. We both got some fresh air and Vitamin D, and I was able to get in some light exercise before starting my workouts again.
  • Continued to drink a lot of water. Great for me, and for the baby since I am breastfeeding/pumping.
  • After a few weeks, I moved on to exclusively pumping due to a nasty bout with mastitis. Breastfeeding isn't for everyone, and a lot of moms find out that they're unable to. This is what worked best for my baby and me. She was happier with the flow out of the bottle, and no longer got frustrated and I also knew how many ounces she was receiving at each feeding. Some people  swear by breastfeeding/pumping to shed the baby weight. I honestly don't know if it made a difference, but it may have.
  • Eased back into a workout routine which is still modified to a degree since I can't jump or run without holding my c-section incision area. That will take about a year to fully heal according to my doctor.
  • I am doing ab work, but nothing crazy per the doctor's orders. He said ab work is fine, just don't overdo it and listen to your body.
  • Staying active and present. As much as I love being that sweet little girl's mom I also make time for me whether it's blog related, pampering at the nail spa, or a night out. I am also still a wife, sister, daughter, and friend. Balance is key for every aspect of life.

For those of you at home with a new little one or will be at some point, I just want to let you know that no matter how hard it is, how exhausted you are, or how overwhelmed you feel those first few weeks - I promise it will get better. Those baby blues are seriously no joke! Fresh air and a change of scenery work wonders!

If you're interested in checking out a barre class, you can find my comparison of Barre3 vs. The Bar Method here. I haven't tried Pure Barre yet, but have heard that it's similar to The Bar Method. And Central FL friends ~ don't forget about the Barre3 pop up in the park on April 22nd. Did I mention it's totally free?

October Home Stretch

I'm sure we are all thinking the same thing - how is it already October?! I've been waiting for October all year, because this is the month we'll meet baby girl. Time has flown by at lightning speed!

Since this weekend was pretty quiet other than celebrating our fav neighbor's birthday, I thought I'd share my few must have items that got me through my pregnancy.
Home Stretch Items

Burt's Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter - I cannot believe I'm saying this, but so far so good in the stretch marks department even at 38 weeks. I'm owing it to a combination of staying active throughout my pregnancy and slathering on the belly butter after I showered every night. It kept my skin moisturized, and I loved that it didn't have a strong scent and was a natural product without parabens, phthalates, and petrolatum. Win-win!

Coffee - a big pregnancy myth is that you have to ditch you daily dose of caffeine. I honestly don't know how I would have survived if this was true. You can safely have up to 200 mg per day (about 2 cups of coffee). My morning Dunkin and Starbucks runs or walk over to the Keurig are still something I look forward to every day.

High Rise Leggings - As you'll see below, I have lived in flowy dresses but for barre and yoga classes or weekly Target runs my high rise leggings comfortably fit over my ever-growing bump. My favorites were these Zella high waist crop leggings from Nordstrom and these high rise crops from lululemon. Seriously the most comfortable pants ever!

La Croix Sparkling Water - Even when I can enjoy adult beverages again soon, I'll still keep my fridge stocked full of these pretty slim cans. It was a nice treat aside from drinking water all the time, and super refreshing to enjoy while lounging in the pool.  They come in a large variety of flavors and are 0 calorie, 0 sugar, 0 sodium, and the best part by far is 0 artificial sweeteners which equals 0 guilt. I picked up packs of them at Target, where you can also find them on sale a lot plus Cartwheel deals.

Flowy Dresses - Other than the dress I wore to my baby shower in CT and for our maternity shoot I haven't purchased a single piece of maternity clothes. Instead I picked up several flowy dresses that were not only super comfortable (waistbands are not your friend while your bump is growing), but helped me look put together even if just running out for a bit. One of my favorites was this dress from Express that I loved so much I picked up in multiple colors.

**If you live in a colder climate, and it's winter time I'd suggest pairing flowy dresses or tunics with high rise leggings to stay comfortable. I tried the belly band, and it worked but it made me super hot since it was like an extra layer of clothing under my tops**.

Workouts - As I mentioned here, keeping up with barre and yoga classes throughout my pregnancy especially during the yucky months of the 1st trimester was not easy but so rewarding. No matter how sick or tired I felt before class, I was always so thankful that I forced myself to go and left feeling so much better.

Prenatal Gummies - Some women feel sick from prenatal vitamins, and I don't do well with nasty big pills so I've been chewing on 2-3 prenatal gummies daily since before even getting pregnant. Not only do they taste great, but they give me all the nutrients that I need to help support the growing baby. Target of course for the win with great prices, constant sales, and Cartwheel deals.

Things I didn't waste money on or improvised on:

Pregnancy Pillow - As I got about halfway into my 3rd trimester, sleep became more and more uncomfortable with hip and joint pain. I've heard women rave for years about pregnancy pillows which tend to take up a ton of room and are expensive for an item you're only using for a few weeks or months. I took notice of the king size pillows that sit on the bed more for decor than actual use, and decided to try them out one night and it was magical! They're longer than a regular pillow so they provided me with the support I needed on my belly and in-between my legs to relieve the hip pain.

Maternity Clothes - As I mentioned above, I've been living in flowy dresses which have been super comfortable and can still be worn once baby girl arrives. I love that I didn't invest in a bunch of pieces that could only be worn for a short time, and rather in items that I'll be able to continue wearing.

Changing Table - I read a lot of reviews that said it's a piece of furniture you'll only use for a little while, and it's easier to just purchase a changing pad with a grippy bottom and place it on top of a dresser that will grow with baby. This is exactly what we did, and I'm very happy with our decision.

What were some of your must-haves and what did you skip out on that others may swear by?

Friday Celebrations

Happy Friday! I'm super excited for this weekend's festivities, and can't believe we're going into the last official weekend of summer. Even though we'll still have "summer temps" here in the sunshine state for another month or two, I will be ready to decorate and bake all the fall treats!

1. It was bittersweet to say goodbye to my Bar Method family on Wednesday, as I made the tough decision to freeze my membership with baby girl being officially full term next week. My past year at the barre studio has been strengthening and inspiring, and the instructors were among the first to know about my pregnancy so that I could modify certain moves to keep the baby and myself safe. I owe my minimal swelling and back pain along with the healthy pregnancy weight gain to keeping up with this intense yet low impact workout.

2. I may be a little late to the game on this, but I am super excited about the Nordstrom and J. Crew collab! All our favorites are now available with free shipping all the time! I'll take all the fun bright colored pants and shorts and pretty necklaces please and thank you!
J. Crew and Nordstrom Collab
Deck Stripe Tee | Crystal Blossom Necklace | Shirting Stripe Ruffle Top | Rider Italian Leather Mini Bag | Rhodes Italian Pants | City Trench Coat

3. Florals... for spring? Groundbreaking... but florals for fall? Yes please! Just add darker colors like this Alice + Olivia Clyde Shift Dress - perfect for fall with a jacket and some ankle booties.

Or this Nicholas Floral Bow Strapless Dress - so effortlessly pretty and breezy for fall!  I'd pair it with a beautiful statement necklace and leather jacket.

4. As much as I love Bath and Body Works 3 wick candles, I'm also a huge fan of Yankee Candles especially for fall and Christmas scents. You can score a double deal at Bed Bath and Beyond right now, as the below scents are the "fragrances of the month" at 25% off plus you can use the 20% off coupons that come in the mail on top of the discounted price.
Autumn Wreath - my fav!

5. I'm excited to see what my girls have planned for baby girl's shower this weekend. Everything is a complete surprise, except I know that I'll be donning the dress from this post for the occasion.

It's no secret that I'm hooked on barre classes (you can find my comparison of Barre3 and Bar Method here), and I also have a strong love for fun graphic tees. Throw in my love for coffee, and I'm sold!
