Guess Who's Back?

... back again! Ok.. sorry if I just put that song in your head :-P

H and I are back from an exhausting and emotional weekend in CT saying goodbye to the amazing woman that was my grandmother. We spent a lot of time with family and the only friends we saw were the ones that came to the services which is "exactly what the doctor ordered".

We had an early flight and I started my day off right with a skinny iced cafe mocha. Apparently, the barista thought my name was Keith? :-P

It was snowing when we landed and in the words of Bambi I jokingly asked "What's all that white stuff?"

I do NOT miss "winter weather" and could not get warm! I also did not enjoy slipping around on the slippery roads and walkways. Yipes!

As much as I dislike cold weather, the snow was very pretty to look at :)

Everything was complete deja vu from 6 months ago, but it was much harder for me this time around since now they're both gone and it just feels so unreal. But it was great to see all of my family again and so many other people from growing up. The services were beautiful, and my cousins and I were the pallbearers which I've never done before since usually the men do this job. But, my grandma had wanted us to do that for our grandfather last summer and it never happened due to chaos. This made things even more emotional for me and I just sobbed the whole way down the aisle. Words cannot explain the empty feeling I have now that they are both gone. They were such a HUGE part of my life and I can't imagine our futures without them.

We took another cousins pic like the one we took only 6 short months ago. Last time it was a beautiful summer day, this time we had snow in our backdrop. These pictures mean a lot to me since we are spread out across the country... Michigan, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Florida, and D.C.

Afterwards, we all went back to my grandparent's house where we spent the evening rummaging through their stuff, reminiscing, and enjoying some takeout. We found some great pictures and I loved finding all of my grandfather's old wallets with several pictures of my grandmother in each one. It shows how much he loved her and probably showed her off to all who would listen to their wonderful story. I ended up taking home a necklace with my birthstone since my grandmother and I were both born in the same month and a comfy sweatshirt of my grandfathers from Cuffys in Cape Cod. Love Cuffys!

Sunday, H and I went to church with my parents and then I spent the rest of the day at their house helping them clean up. I also tackled the abyss that was my brother's room. Messy doesn't even begin to describe it. I brought down dishes my mom hadn't seen in forever, recycled beer bottles and water bottles and even some 2 liter soda bottles! The boy doesn't realize he was messing with the green fashionista! I asked him when the last time he had washed his bedding and he said he didn't know... YUCK! So, I washed all his bedding, 4 more loads of laundry, vacuumed, dusted, got rid of a TON of garbage, and sprayed the heck out of the place with febreeze. When he and his girlfriend came back to watch tv neither of them could believe it was the same room. My dad's jaw dropped and asked how I did it. So, I told my brother if it's trashed again when we're back for my cousin's wedding he'll have to answer to me. Dun dun DUN!

My mom drove us to the city for our flight home. Man I miss going to the city! Can't wait to go back in the spring and spend a whole day in the city with H.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone for the kind words, emails, and messages last week. It really means a lot :)

Here's to the rest of the week and hopefully "regular scheduled programming".

  1. I'm so sorry for your loss (I have no idea how I'm going to handle losing my Grandma when it inevitably happens). But nothing beats the feeling of going home <3 Glad you were able to be with your family.
