All of the lights... all of the lights

One of my favorite Christmas past times is going to see all the beautiful lights. There's just something so magical about twinkle lights, and with the recent temperature drop last weekend was the perfect time to go take them in. I broke out some wintery pieces that rarely get touched because Florida (which don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining. I moved down here for year round warmth and love not dealing with bitter cold anymore), and am happy to report that almost my whole look is on sale. Oh hello holiday sales!

The lighting isn't great since it was well... night time. Could I have spent an extra hour or two editing them to their full potential? Perhaps, but life happens and so do cozy nights watching Christmas movies. So there's that...

Some Sunshine for the Rain

With all the rain we've been experiencing lately in the so-called sunshine state it was high time I purchased a nice raincoat to help keep me dry in the storms. I picked up this raincoat during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale last month, and even though it's way too warm to wear it right now I'm excited to pack it for my trip to CT in the fall, and to rock it during any rainstorms once it cools off around here.

Singing in the Rain

In the last few months I've been extremely blessed to win not just one, but two amazing giveaways! First, the HANAair blow dryer and then I won the April Showers Bring May Flowers giveaway for a pair of Hunters Rain Boots. So many pretty colors to pick from, and I chose Dark Ruby which looks great with neutrals.

We get a lot of rain in FL in the summer, so I know they'll be put to good use, and I fully plan on jumping in all the puddles!

Vacation Shopping is the Best

I feel like it's been forever since I went shopping, and what better excuse to break the drought than shopping for an upcoming trip?

Top - Gap | Shorts - J. Crew | Bag - Target

I've been wanting a pair of mint colored shorts, and loved the chinos at J. Crew plus they were on sale win-win! And I needed a cute *and cheap* crossbody bag for site seeing and thought the polka dots were too cute to pass up.

I also couldn't resist placing an order on VS the other night. When one has 3 offer codes that include a $19 bikini, free shipping, and 30% off a clothing item one must make a purchase!

Maxi Stripes

I love when I find clothing pieces that I not only love, but are versatile. I scored a great deal at The Gap the day after Christmas, and picked up a beautiful striped maxi for only $12, marked down from $60. It's a dress, but can also be folded over to be a skirt. I've worn it both ways, and love it either way and it's super comfy.

Perfect outfit for brunch with friends

My favorite go-to warm weather outfit is definitely a maxi dress and sandals. Effortlessly pretty and comfy :)

Post Christmas Shopping

There's just something depressing in the air after Christmas is over. There's so much build up to the big day... all the shopping, baking, wrapping, decorating, etc... and when it's all over you're left wondering how it went by so fast. But, thankfully there are after Christmas sales and New Years Eve to look forward to. Hopefully I didn't just panic a bunch of you for not finding a sparkly dress to ring in 2014 yet.... don't worry there's still time!

The day after Christmas, H and I went to go see Saving Mr. Banks (great flick if you're looking for something to go see and of course now I'm full steam ahead looking into annual Disney passes) and then grabbed some lunch and did some shopping. We stopped in The Gap and at Pottery Barn and were amazed by the sales going on at The Gap.

I picked up this 4 in 1 dress for only $11 marked down from $60. Most of their items are already on clearance and then you can take another 40%-50% off.

I used a gift card from my aunt and uncle and picked up some items at Pottery Barn. How pretty is that snowflake candle?! Only $6 on sale ;-)

Of course, my favorite item was the bulldog wine stopper... adorable!

Today, I headed over to my happy place - Target and was disappointed at how much of the Christmas stuff was already gone, but was able to pick up plenty of items at 50% off.

Love these festive shot glasses marked down to only $3! I plan on gifting them along with a bottle of liquor as a hostess gift for our friend's NYE party we're going to.

And of course the VS Semi-Annual sale is in full swing, which I'm sure I'll be causing some damage there as well 0:-)

Weekend Shopping and Baking

I'm always so excited for Friday, and then next thing I know here we are again on Sunday evening. It just goes by too fast, and there isn't enough time to really unwind before the next work week starts up again. But enough of my whining. I had a good weekend, did some shopping and we had some friends over last night that hadn't seen our house yet. I made my famous buffalo dip (recipe can be found here) and pumpkin spice cupcakes.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Cream 1 and 1/2 sticks of unsalted butter until smooth in a large bowl
Add 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of firmly packed brown sugar and mix until smooth
Add 3 eggs one at a time and set aside

Combine 1 cup of pumpkin puree, 1/2 cup of buttermilk, and 1 tsp. of vanilla in a medium bowl and set aside

Combine 2 cups of all purpose flour, 2 tsp baking powder, 1 and 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon, and 1 tsp. of baking soda in a large bowl.

In thirds, alternately add the flour mixture and the buttermilk mixture to the butter mixture blending well until smooth.

To make a cake pour batter into three 8 inch pans and bake for 35-40 minutes at 350 degrees
To make cupcakes, pour batter into cupcake cups in a cupcake pan and bake for approximately 25 minutes

After the cakes have cooled, frost with cream cheese frosting

Cream Cheese Frosting

Beat one 8 oz. package of cream cheese and 1/2 cup of butter (both softened) until fluffy.
Gradually add 16 oz. of powdered sugar beating at low speed until blended.
Add 1 tsp. of vanilla beating until well blended

After serving, store any leftovers in the fridge as the frosting contains cream cheese

We enjoyed these goodies and gave them a tour of the house and then went out for a few drinks. Great evening and we've been really enjoying getting to know new people down here. We miss our friends and family back home so much it hurts, but it's really helps that we've been blessed with great neighbors and co-workers.

I also did a little shopping this weekend since there were some sales going on for Columbus Day weekend. I don't have a 3 day weekend, but was able to take advantage of some retail therapy with the sales going on.

Remember the black skinnies I wanted from The Gap in my most recent Wardrobe Wants Wednesday post? Well, they went on sale this weekend! Instead of $69.95, they were $34.95... but here's the catch. I went to the mall today because I wanted to try them on and make sure I liked them, but only the blue ones were 50% off, the black ones were only 20% off at the register. But I specifically remembered seeing them 50% off online, so I went home and ordered them instead and got my 50% off!

Unflattering cell phone pic from the dressing room. I feel a little "hip-py" in them, but I plan to wear longer tops with them. They're super comfy and no where near as restricting as regular jeans.

I also picked up H a nice new button down and some boxers from The Gap which were also on sale, got a new necklace and earring set from Forever 21, and some new tops from Old Navy.

I got this great top at Old Navy for only $8.00

This cardigan was also from Old Navy and on sale for $17.99

I also purchased the top that I'm wearing in the Gap dressing room pic from Old Navy on sale for $7.95, but for some reason I can't seem to find a pic of it online. All the tops are super comfy and I'm so happy that they were all so cheap.

Hope everyone else had a great weekend, and maybe hit up some good sales, now it's time to look Monday in the face and conquer it!
