Staying in Shape

I've had a number of you ask what I do to stay in shape since I've made it well known that I got rid of my gym membership a few years ago, but have continued to stay active.

*That RBF look is seriously no joke*
When we first moved to Florida from Connecticut, I experienced some inner ear damage which was debilitating to say the least. Even going into grocery stores was almost unrealistic, and I barely got through my work days. So needless to say my workout routine went right out the window for several months as my equilibrium learned to compromise for the permanent damage and I started to feel normal again. I wouldn't wish something that awful on anybody,  but I'm glad I got through it and it hasn't returned. Unfortunately, I ended up gaining weight and not feeling comfortable in my own skin throughout that time.

As I slowly eased back into a healthier lifestyle, I got a membership at a nearby gym so I could get back into spin and kickboxing classes. I also enjoyed going to the gym at lunch to fit in a quick cardio and weight session. It took about a year, but I slowly transformed back into my "healthy weight" range and started fitting back into my old clothes which is always a fantastic feeling. I still have a little bit to go to hit my goal weight, but I love being settled back into a consistent workout routine.
After a little while, I bought my own elliptical for the house and started getting more into workout dvd's to supplement my gym workouts. Next thing I knew.... I quit the gym. And Chandler wasn't kidding, it's not easy to quit the gym!
I quit the gym because I felt that I could get just as good of a workout at home, combined with my yoga classes at work and occasional Barre3 packages. And the great news is... I have. Plus the fun part is still rocking some cute gym clothes that are great for not only working out, but also to relax in at home or for running errands. So, I was excited when a representative from RBX Active reached out to me, and asked if I wanted to try a pair of their new patterned capri legging workout pants which are versatile enough for workouts or every day wear.

My Weekly Workout Routine:

Sunday: Barre3 youtube workout, these are my favorites:

Monday: 30 Day Shred workout (I mix up the 3 workouts on this dvd depending on the day).
Tuesday: Complimentary yoga during lunch hour
Wednesday: RushFit with George St-Pierre or I'll take a Barre3 class at lunch.
Thursday: Complimentary yoga during lunch hour
Friday: Rest day - you deserve it! Now go get your butt to happy hour!
Saturday: Morning bike ride

Sometimes events come up in the evenings, and I don't always fit in my workouts but that's ok. I never get down on myself for living life and missing a workout.

Sunday Social

Happy 1st Sunday of 2013! Linking up with Ashley and Neely for the 1st Sunday Social of the year :)

1. Do you plan to change your eating habits for the new year?

~ I'm not usually one to make resolutions, and it's not a resolution per se but I really would like to start eating healthier and cleaner as I mentioned in last week's post.

2. Any workout tips to get us back into shape after the Holidays?

~ This was the first holiday season I felt like I was particularly bad in the over-indulging department. I feel like the whole month of December was dedicated to various parties and get-togethers. So, needless to say I was over-eating and drinking a lot of high-calorie holiday drinks for several weeks. Thankfully, I kept up with my workout routine for the most part so I didn't gain too much, but I did gain about 3-4 pounds that I'm working on shedding.

So far, this week I only ate salad or soup for lunch instead of my usual leftovers or lean cuisines packed full of sodium. I've also gotten back into my workout routine full swing which includes 3-4 workouts at the gym during the week which is 30 minutes of cardio plus some weights. I also still do Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred at home on the weekends and one evening during the week after work. That workout is NO JOKE! After the first time, you'll be sore in places you didn't know muscles existed but if you keep at it you'll love that workout and the results it brings, I promise!

3. What is your favorite thing you did over the holidays?

~ All the time spent with friends at various parties and get-togethers.

4. What is something you hope that you accomplish in 2013 that you did not do in 2012?

~ Tackle some more debt, we're making great headway so I'd like to hopefully eliminate it this year.

5. Name 3 things you are excited about this year and why

~ Celebrating H's 30th birthday on a cruise and a big celebration when we get back :)

~ My cousin's wedding

~ Hopefully starting our family

Beautiful Weekend

This past weekend was just amazing! The weather here was unbelievably gorgeous! I came home Friday after work and did my 30 Day Shred work out, then showered and started making the buffalo chicken dip for the b-day party. As I predicted, the dip was a huge hit, you can never go wrong with that recipe!

Saturday was even more beautiful than Friday was, so we went to the beach for the first time this year with some friends. It was so nice to put on a bathing suit and lay in the sand hanging out with good friends. LOVED it! We went home and showered and ended up going back to the beach.. but a different beach with another couple and got sandwiches and had some wine at a table near the water and then walked up and down the boardwalk and  capped off the night with some ice cream. What a perfect day! After a long winter, this was a long time coming..

Sunday, we went to church, and then my fiance went off to the movies with some of the guys, and I went shopping with one of my best friends on the hunt for a dress for my bridal shower which is in a few weeks. We stopped in Express, Charlotte Russe, and Macys before I found a super cute dress for super cheap at Forever 21.

I also got the necklace there and another top that I wore to work today..such great deals!

Anyone who knows me knows I'm a huge environmentalist.. I cringe when people throw paper or plastic in the garbage. Plus the makeup I wear  is MAC Cosmetics, so I'm in love thinking about their recycling program. If you bring back 6 empty MAC containers they will give you a free lipstick. (I used to get free eyeshadow by going to the actual MAC store, but if you go to the kiosks inside department stores, you can only trade them in for a lipstick.) So, I chose a new lipstick that wasn't too "in your face" since I prefer the more natural look when it comes to my lips.

I chose the lipstick shade  Creme  Sheen  and it's  beautiful. I also wanted t o finally get some primer because my makeup always seems to mysteriously disappear and my makeup artist for the wedding told me I should use primer. So, I asked the consultant at MAC about primer and she gave me a sample of the Prep & Prime Skin primer and I used it today and LOVED it. I will definitely be purchasing that at my next trip to the mall. I love free stuff!

Last but certainly not least, what would a trip to the mall be without a trip to Victoria's Secret? I picked up a bottle of their new Keep Glowing Tan Extend Body Moisturizer by Beach Sexy to put on after a day in the sun at the beach to moisturize your skin and keep that beachy glow. Its smells great! It has a very similar smell to Clinique Happy. I also got a free pair of VS panties with a coupon, they always send me coupons so I've scored a bunch of free stuff from them over the years. More freebies! :0)

I also received my party dress for the bachelor/bachelorette party bus trip to the casino next month in the mail from Body Central. I absolutely LOVE Body Central, they have a lot of great party tops and dresses for cheap. I normally order stuff that are "deals of the week". Right before we went on a cruise last fall, I ordered 3 great dresses for only $9 each during a sale. Below is the dress for the bachelorette, it's a silver bubble hem party dress and fits great!
